Samsung files to ban IPhone 4S in Japan and Australia
Samsung filed the preliminary injunction motion in a Australia as well as in a Japanese courts to ban iPhone 4S, the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2 claiming Apple’s products infringe its Australian patents protecting data-transmission methods and Japanese patents protecting user interface designs and power consumption.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal - "The Korean company said it filed on Monday for preliminary injunctions in the Tokyo District Court and in the New South Wales Registry, Australia, to stop the sale of iPhone 4S smartphones in both countries. Samsung also asked the Japanese court to stop the sale of Apple's iPhone 4 and iPad 2 devices. The fresh legal action underscores how critical the smartphone business has become to Samsung."
"Apple has continued to violate our patent rights and free-ride on our technology. We will no longer stand idly by and will steadfastly protect our intellectual property" says Samsung in a statement.
At the same time, Samsung is appealing an Australian court's decision to ban sales of Samsung Galaxy tablet. Apple accused Samsung of copying the iPad and iPhone look and feel.
